The Centre for Logistics and Transport Studies (CELTRAS), University of Port Harcourt, is a leading academic and professional development hub committed to advancing knowledge, research, and practice in logistics, transport, and supply chain management. Established in 2012, CELTRAS was created in response to the growing need for skilled manpower and strategic leadership in Nigeria’s transport and logistics sectors.

Rooted in academic excellence and informed by real-world industry challenges, CELTRAS offers a unique platform where theory meets practice. Our postgraduate programmes, Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master of Science (M.Sc.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), are designed to equip students with practical skills, critical thinking, and global best practices necessary to navigate and transform the dynamic landscape of transport and logistics/supply chain management in Africa.

The Center has, over the years, maintained a very strong partnership with the Nigerian Marine Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigeria Shippers Council, FRSC, Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA), Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), and various ministries including the Ministries of Transport, Marine and Blue Economy, and Aviation/Aerospace Development. Through these partnerships, CELTRAS maintains solid connections with policymakers, industry leaders, and international development agencies, ensuring its training and research activities stay relevant, responsive, and impactful.

At CELTRAS, we are also committed to innovation, offering hybrid learning (online and onsite), engaging in forward-thinking research, and hosting capacity-building events that bridge the gap between academia and industry.

With over a decade of consistent growth, the Centre contributes significantly to national development by producing highly competent professionals and influencing transport and logistics policies at both national and regional levels.

To promote the professionalization of Nigeria’s transport, logistics, marine/blue economy sector by ensuring that, in the near future, these critical areas are led and managed by highly trained, well-qualified professionals equipped with global best practices.

The mission of CELTRAS is to produce highly qualified professionals in transport planning, logistics, supply chain management, and marine/blue economy who are equipped to address the evolving challenges of the Nigerian economy and the African continent. The Centre is committed to advancing knowledge and practical skills through research, teaching, and professional development that foster innovative solutions to transportation and logistics issues. CELTRAS also seeks to attract international collaboration and funding to support intellectual exchange through conferences, seminars, short courses, and academic publications.

The programme is designed to prepare and train competent professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the growth and transformation of the industry.
